White water rafting on the Gauley river in West Virginia. Rated #7 in the world, this river is crazy! One of the "must do" before your old things.

    Had some fun with my college buddies doing this is west virginia, a boat in front of us actually got slit open from a sharp rock that it rubbed against. one of the roughest rivers in america

    @csPJLadd ME TOO! i went and i fell off and went under and couldnt get up. the leader couldnt find me and didnt go in. i crashed into a rock and got SOME air. and back under again. then i crashed into a boulder and my raft hit me!!!!!!!!! in the end i got back on

    @csPJLadd I almost died too!! As if the rapids, the fear of hitting your head and/or drowning wasn’t enough danger–did you know there’s often times SNAKES in the water???!!! Too many dangers for me……

    @MeredithOD indeed, almoast died doing this in aoustria :/ fell in to the river and culdnt get up so the leader jumped in after me and the whole boat flipped around so al of us fell in… prty scary, thought my life was over at that moment!

    @coolman2693 In some cases it really doesn’t help. But in most it helps avoid some rocks if you paddle enough and if everyone is actually paddling together

    @qwertyg33ks Paddling can get you out of those giant ledge holes when they start to surf you too. The momentum you get goes a long way my man.

    @coolman2693 I don’t get how that comment helps? Paddling for direction, not speed. Face the wrong way, and you are stuck at the bottom of a 5+ rapid… dang.

    No JOKE!!!. This river can and will kill you if your not paying attention. What a ride. We wer the only crew that did not over turn. Thanks to Brad B it was the best time of our lives. If your not scared, you soon will be, but that’s what it’s all about.

    I love the Gauley River! We go almost every other weekend, may through october, and EVERY weekend during Gauley season! Its a 3.5 hr drive one way but well worth it! My friend is even building a house on the gorge up there because we go so often! The Gauley was the FIRST time I had ever rafted and it was the BEST! not quit as scary as it looks but can be very dangerous. we ALWAYS go with CLASS VI……Look them up if your planning a trip!

Canoe

A canoe is a small narrow boat, typically human-powered, though it may also be powered by sails or small electric or gas motors. Canoes are usually pointed at both bow and stern and are normally open on top, but can be decked over i.e. covered, similar to a kayak.In its human-powered form, the canoe is propelled by the use of paddles, usually by two people. Paddlers face in the direction of travel, either seated on supports in the hull, or kneeling directly upon the hull. Paddling can be contrasted with rowing, where the rowers usually face away from the direction of travel and use mounted oars though a wide canoe can be fitted with oarlocks and rowed. Paddles may be single-bladed or double-bladed.
